The Life of the Soul

Know verily that the soul is a sign of God, a heavenly gem whose reality the most learned of men hath failed to grasp, and whose mystery, no mind, however acute can ever hope to unravel.

Bahá’u’lláh

The soul of man must be happy no matter where he is. One must attain to the condition of inward beatitude and peace, then outward circumstances will not alter his spiritual calmness and joyousness.

‘Abdu’l-Bahá

Our body is like a cage, and the spirit is like the bird. We see that without the cage the bird flies… therefore, if the cage becomes broken, the bird will continue to exist…

‘Abdu’l-Bahá

The world beyond is as different from this world as this world is different from that of the child while still in the womb of its mother.

‘Abdu’l-Bahá

Know thou of a truth that the soul, after its separation from the body, will continue to progress until it attaineth the presence of God.

Bahá’u’lláh

Man is, in reality, a spiritual being, and only when he lives in the spirit is he truly happy.

‘Abdu’l-Bahá

Every body calleth aloud for a soul.

Bahá’u’lláh

O friend, the heart is the dwelling of eternal mysteries, make it not the home of fleeting fancies …Thou comest from the world of holiness - bind not thine heart to the earth.

Bahá’u’lláh

Truthfulness is the foundation of all human virtues. Without truthfulness progress and success in all the worlds of God, are impossible for any soul. When this holy attribute is established in man, all the divine qualities will also be acquired.

‘Abdu’l-Bahá

Spirituality is the possession of a good, pure heart. When the heart is pure, the Spirit enters, and our growth is natural and assured. Everyone is better informed of the condition of his own soul than the soul of others.

Dost thou reckon thyself a puny form, when within thee a universe is unfolded?

Bahá’u’lláh
