Man - the true man
- is soul, not body; though physically man
belongs to the animal kingdom, yet his soul
lifts him above the rest of creation. The
soul it is which makes the human creature
a celestial entity!
‘Abdu’l-Bahá
The soul of man must
be happy no matter where he is. One must attain
to the condition of inward beatitude and peace,
then outward circumstances will not alter
his spiritual calmness and joyousness.
‘Abdu’l-Bahá
Man is, in reality,
a spiritual being, and only when he lives
in the spirit is he truly happy.
‘Abdu’l-Bahá
…True life is
not the life of the flesh, but of the spirit.
Bahá’u’lláh
True happiness comes
not from external things, but through attachment
to things spiritual. It is an inner joy, which
nothing outside can destroy.
You will see around
you proofs of the inadequacy of material things-
how joy, comfort, peace, and consolation are
not to be found in the transitory things of
the world. Is it not then foolishness to refuse
to seek these treasures where they may be
found? The doors of the spiritual kingdom
are open to all, and without is absolute darkness…
‘Abdu’l-Bahá
…Human happiness
is founded upon spiritual behaviour.
‘Abdu’l-Bahá
Let each morn be better
than its eve and each morrow richer than its
yesterday.
Bahá’u’lláh
No matter how far the
material world advances, it cannot establish
the happiness of mankind. Only when material
and spiritual civilisation are linked and
co-ordinated will happiness be assured.
… All the sorrow
and the grief that exist come from the world
of matter- the spiritual world bestows only
the joy.
When our days are drawing
to a close let us think of the eternal worlds,
and we shall be full of joy.
‘Abdu’l-Bahá
He who has reached
the state of self- sacrifice has true joy.
‘Abdu’l-Bahá
We must look higher
than all earthly thoughts; detach ourselves
from every material idea, crave for the things
of the spirit.
‘Abdu’l-Bahá
Contentment is the
greatest wealth.
Dammapada
True loss is for him
whose days have been spent in utter ignorance
of his true self.
Bahá’u’lláh
The most necessary
thing is contentment under all circumstances;
by this one is preserved from morbid conditions.
Yield not to grief and sorrow; they cause
the greatest misery. Jealousy consumeth the
body and anger doth burn the liver, avoid
these two as you would a lion.
Bahá’u’lláh
