Making a major bid for unity

Evening Advertiser, Wednesday, January 29th, 2003

RELIGIOUS leaders in Swindon are being urged to put aside their differences and embrace unity. The Bishop of Swindon, the Rt Rev Michael Doe, was amoung leaders who received a letter from members of Swindon's Bahá'í Community calling for understanding.

The letter was written by the Bahá'í international foverning council, the Universal House of Justice, and is addressed to all the world's religious heads. It is also being delivered to prominent figures in religious communities and academic institutions, as well as hundreds of thousands of clergy and officers of religious communities.

Fidelma Meehan, projects co-ordinator for the Swindon Bahá'í community, said: "This is a very important letter for the leaders and followers of all faiths, as it clearly states that increasing numbers of people now realise that there is only one truth underlying all religions."

"But this perception must have whole-hearted acceptance of religious leaders if we are to try and establish peace in the world."
