Fidelma Meehan - An Irish Bahá'í

Fidelma Meehan is the Bahá'í Projects Co-ordinator in Swindon.
She has been a Bahá'í since 1993. Here’s why..

My belief is that within everyone there is the potential to be of great benefit to society – or to have a negative influence on society. Being a Bahá'í is about contributing positively to other people’s lives.

The Bahá'í Faith helped me realise the whole purpose of why I’m here, which, as Bahá'u'lláh, founder of the Bahá'í Faith, says, is to know and to worship God, and to serve humanity. Indeed, ‘Abdu’l-Bahá, who is the son of Bahá'u'lláh, said that to be a Bahá'í simply means to love the whole world, and to really wish to serve humanity.

I recognised in Bahá'u'lláh the return of the spirit of Christ

Growing up in Northern Ireland, I always had the question, "why are there so many different religions in the world?" When I came across the writings of Bahá'u'lláh (I was a Catholic then), I found the answer. Bahá'u'lláh says that there is only one religion, "eternal in the past, eternal in the future", and all the religions are like different chapters of one book. The Bahá'í Faith is the latest chapter of that book.

My main reason for following the Bahá'í Faith is that I recognised in Bahá'u'lláh the return of the spirit of Christ, and in following Bahá'u'lláh I have fulfilled the purpose of my life.
