International Bahá'í Community

The Bahá'í International Community is an accredited non-governmental organisation which has long worked closely with the United Nations, supporting many of its goals and programmes. Its purpose is to promote the concept of a just system of international governance which would lay the foundations for a lasting and universal peace.

This vision of international peace and prosperity, embracing all the nations and peoples of the Earth, was first called for by Bahá'u'lláh over a hundred years ago. Bahá'u'lláh’s statement that ‘The earth is but one country and mankind its citizens’ embodies the Bahá'í ideal of world citizenship.

Bahá'í delegations have participated in most of the major United Nations conferences in the last 30 years, and their impact has been most felt sinec the 1990’s. For instance, at the 1993 World Conference on Human Rights, the 1995 Fourth World Conference on Women in Beijing, or the 2002 World Summit on Sustainable Development in Johannesburg.
